Proprietor"Sheikh Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Habeebullah Al-Adaby (1905–2005) was a pioneering Nigerian Islamic scholar from Ilorin. He memorized the Qur'an by age 14 and studied under Sheikh Tajul-Adab, who gave him his laqab (honorific name). In 1928 he founded his first Arabic school in Lagos, then expanded to Ilorin. On 28 May 1942, he established the Ansarul Islam Society — the first such organization in Northern Nigeria — which grew to over 200 branches across West Africa. He launched the first Ansarul Islam primary school in 1947, secondary schools in 1970–71, and the Al-Azhary Institute in 1963 after visiting Cairo. In 2003 he began building Ansarul Islam University in Ilorin. He served as Chairman of the Ilorin Central Mosque Committee, overseeing its construction commissioned by President Shagari in 1981. He received national honors (MFR 1963, OFR 1981), a Kwara State Merit Award (1988), an Egyptian honor (1992), a D.Litt. from the University of Ilorin (1998), and was named the first Grand Mufti of Ilorin in 2005 — the highest honor ever bestowed by an Emir of Ilorin.
